Why should my flowers be pressed rather than freeze dried or preserved three-dimensionally?

The Floral Portrait specializes in the pressing method of floral preservation because it is by far the most permanent and reliable method of preservation available today. Flower pressing is an art form that originated in England during Victorian times, and we have seen pressed floral portraits from the early 1920's. Your floral portrait is truly an heirloom that can be handed down through the generations.

Another advantage of pressed flowers is the ability to tastefully decorate your home with your portrait, as there is no bulky shadow box or dome. Instead we use a wide variety of beautiful custom frames so you can choose the one that looks best with your home decor.

What types of flowers can be preserved by pressing?

In the fourteen years that we have been in business we have perfected all flowers except poinsettias.

Will the colors of my flowers change?

During the pressing process your white and ivory flowers will become more creamy and antique looking, and your red flowers will press to a beautiful burgundy, as they will in all floral preservation processes. All other colors may darken or lighten slightly, but they will remain the same basic color. Our frames also include museum quality glass to help prevent fading through the years.

How soon do I need to get my flowers to The Floral Portrait?

For best results, we should receive your flowers within two to four days of your wedding. Bouquets older than that may require some replacement flowers at a nominal charge. Please refer to our packing and shipping instructions page for tips on keeping your flowers fresh until we receive them.

How do I decide which size portrait I want?

Flowers take up more room when they are pressed than in their natural form, so a general rule of thumb is that an 8x10 size portrait will preserve about 1/4 of an average size bouquet, an 11x14 will preserve about 1/2 of an average size bouquet, and the 16x20 size will preserve all of an average size bouquet. The 16x20 size is our best selling size, but all portraits turn out beautifully regardless of what size you decide on. What you order depends on how much of your bouquet you want to preserve and, of course, how much you want to spend.  You can also measure pictures that you currently have hanging in your home to help you visualize your preferred size.

Do you accept last minute orders?

We take all orders at any time, and we try to accommodate last minute orders by keeping it simple for you. All you need to do is send us your flowers and a $100 deposit (check, money order, MasterCard, Visa, Discover). If you are not ready to make your frame and design selection, it's okay, as we press and preserve all flowers the exact same way regardless of what you order.

How soon will you need my final selections on frame, design, and fabric?

The bouquet flowers must remain in our presses for several months in order for them to be fully preserved, so you do not need to make your design selections when you place your order. Please call us at 1-800-771-7560 for assistance with your design selections.
